In a 3-day conference that started in August 30th Stowelink joined other local and international experts at Sawela Lodges for a training on edible oils and fats monitoring and possible industry interference. In this meeting discussions revolved around trans fats and possible industry interference. A lot of strategies on industry interference, possible avenues of collaboration with the health sector and possible policy and regulation items revolving around the topic were discussed and strategies developed.
Progress on the trans-fat industry from other global stakeholders in the training was also highlighted and one clear message was that trans fats need to be eliminated as soon as possible. However, in eliminating trans fats there was a strong potential for industry interference but also strong avenues for industry collaboration with the health sector to phase out trans fats in a sustainable manner.
