Stowelink Engaged in Young Health Program Mid-TermProject Review

In the mid-term project review of the Young Health Program in Kenya, implemented by Plan International and funded by AstraZeneca, Stowelink’s founder, Stephen Ogweno, was invited to participate and share valuable insights. This program, which has been active for over five years, aims to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and improve literacy on NCDs and their risk factors among the youth in Nairobi.

A History of Engagement

Stephen Ogweno’s involvement with the Young Health Program dates back to 2016 when he served as a peer educator. His journey has since evolved, transitioning into a role on the program’s advisory board. This deep-rooted connection underscores Stowelink’s commitment to youth engagement and NCD advocacy.

Insights on Advocacy and Youth Engagement

During the mid-term review, Stephen Ogweno highlighted Stowelink’s innovative approaches to advocacy and youth engagement, particularly through the use of technology and media. These methods have proven effective in reaching and educating young people about NCDs, leveraging digital platforms to disseminate crucial health information.

Significant Mid-Term Findings

The review session also unveiled compelling mid-term research findings from the Young Health Program. These findings indicated a substantial impact on improving NCD literacy and influencing healthier behaviors among the youth. However, the data also shed light on the persistent challenges posed by the alcohol and tobacco industries, which continue to counteract efforts aimed at reducing NCD risks among young people.

Call for Vigilance and Adaptation

The insights from the review emphasized the need for ongoing vigilance and the adaptation of new strategies to combat the influence of industries that jeopardize public health efforts. Continuous engagement with youth and the incorporation of innovative approaches are crucial to sustaining the positive impacts of the Young Health Program.

Moving Forward

Stowelink remains committed to its mission of advocating for better health and empowering young people with the knowledge and tools to lead healthier lives. The collaboration and insights shared during the mid-term review of the Young Health Program are vital steps toward achieving these goals.
