At Stowelink Foundation, our commitment to public health advocacy is unwavering. Since 2023, we have been deeply engaged in the fight against industrially produced trans fats in Kenya and across the region. In 2025, our efforts continue to gain momentum as we push for stricter regulations that protect communities from the harmful effects of trans fats.
The campaign led by IILA under the banners of #TransFatFreeKenya and #TransFatFreeEAC, is a testament to the power of collaborative advocacy. Two of our dedicated leads are actively supporting the International Institute of Legislative Affairs (IILA) to drive online advocacy initiatives, using data and policy analysis to highlight the urgent need for change. IILA is taking this collaboration a step further by working directly on policy development, aiming to transform trans fats regulation from an aspiration into a reality.

The impact of our work is already evident. Tangible progress is being made on the regulation front, particularly in Kenya. Ongoing efforts with the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and relevant government ministries are streamlining legislation to ensure tighter controls on trans fats. These initiatives not only safeguard public health by reducing the prevalence of non-communicable diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes, but they also contribute to a healthier economy by cutting down on healthcare costs associated with treating these conditions.
At Stowelink, the fight against trans fats is more than just an advocacy priority—it’s a call to action for a healthier future. We remain dedicated to continuing our work, ensuring that robust, enforceable policies are in place to eliminate these toxic ingredients from our food supply. Together, we can build a future where every Kenyan benefits from a safer, healthier food environment.
