Tobacco industry interference is one of the greatest threats to global public health progress. In response, Stowelink Foundation, through the Tobacco Industry Interference Digital Watch Initiative (TIIDWI), is equipping a new generation of youth advocates to stand up, speak out, and act decisively.
From June 3–5, 2025, we hosted a dynamic 3-day virtual Tobacco Control Champion (TCC) Masterclass that brought together 15 young professionals from diverse backgrounds — all united by a shared commitment to protecting health from the tobacco epidemic.
The sessions were led by Ogweno Stephen, CEO of Stowelink, and Oduor Kevin, Chief Programs Officer. Both are graduates of the Africa Centre for Tobacco Industry Monitoring and Policy Research (ATIM) and possess deep expertise in monitoring tobacco industry tactics. Their experience shaped the masterclass into an engaging, practical learning experience designed to empower young leaders with essential tools to counter tobacco industry influence.

Topics covered during the masterclass included:
- The Tobacco Industry in Africa
- WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC)
- Tobacco Control Policies and Programs in Africa
- Tobacco Industry Interference
- Tobacco Taxation and Illicit Trade
- Political Mapping and Advocacy
- Monitoring and Response Strategies
- Emerging Tobacco and Nicotine Products
- Evidence-Based Advocacy
- The TIIDWI platform and how participants can get involved
Participants engaged in vibrant discussions, practical sessions, and real-world case studies. Most importantly, they were inspired to become advocates for tobacco control within their networks, communities, and professional spaces.

🙏 We thank all attendees for their overwhelming participation and engagement throughout the three days. Your enthusiasm and curiosity are exactly what the movement needs to thrive.
💬 As we look ahead, we’re proud to announce that TIIDWI Project Lead, Oduor Kevin, will represent Stowelink Foundation at the upcoming World Conference on Tobacco Control in Ireland from 23th to 25th June. There, he will share lessons learned from implementing TIIDWI — contributing Kenya’s voice to the global fight against tobacco industry interference.
The ripple effect has begun. Together, we’re building a tobacco-free future.
