Episode 13 Alert: How Cardio Improves Your Heart Health

At Stowelink Foundation, we are passionate about empowering communities to take action against Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

In Series 13 of our Physical Exercise & NCDs series, our Chief Programs Officer, Oduor Kevin, demystify how cardio improves your heart health.

Your heart is an incredible muscle—beating tirelessly to keep you alive every single day. But did you know that, like any other muscle, it can be strengthened through exercise? The answer lies in cardio.

Cardio, short for cardiovascular or aerobic exercise, includes activities like walking, jogging, cycling, swimming, or even dancing. These exercises get your heart rate up and keep it elevated, training your heart to pump blood more efficiently. Over time, cardio strengthens your heart, improves blood flow, and reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

One of cardio’s greatest benefits is its impact on cholesterol and blood pressure. Regular aerobic activity lowers “bad” LDL cholesterol while raising “good” HDL cholesterol, reducing plaque buildup in your arteries. It also improves the flexibility of blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and giving your heart less resistance to pump against.

The best part? Cardio doesn’t have to be extreme. Simple activities like daily walking can make a big difference. What matters most is consistency.

Your heart has been working for you all your life—it’s time to give back. Start small, stay consistent, and watch your heart health transform.
