This Global Week for Action on NCDs, Stowelink Foundation joins the world in highlighting the urgent need to tackle risk factors fueling the NCD crisis. Among these, sedentary lifestyles have quietly but significantly worsened the burden of disease in Africa and beyond.
Evidence shows that sitting for long hours daily increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases—even in individuals who exercise later in the day. The World Health Organization recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity weekly, yet many people fall short due to work and lifestyle patterns.
At Stowelink, we believe in translating evidence into action. Through our Physical Exercise & NCDs series, we share practical, evidence-based strategies to fight inactivity. The latest episode explores how small changes—like taking active breaks, walking during lunch, or using standing desks—can protect health and improve well-being.
As we advocate for systemic changes in policy and practice, we also encourage everyone to take simple, everyday actions. The fight against NCDs begins with every step we take—literally.
