Stowelink Foundation, in collaboration with the Tobacco Industry Monitoring and Response team Kenya, has joined the #UnmaskTheTactics campaign to spotlight and counter tobacco industry interference in public health policy. The campaign got recognized during the Annual General Meeting of NCD Alliance of Kenya members, bringing together civil society organizations, advocates and health leaders committed to advancing non-communicable disease (NCD) prevention in Kenya.
Tobacco use remains one of the leading preventable causes of NCDs, driving the burden of cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease and diabetes. While Kenya has made important strides in tobacco control, the industry continues to deploy sophisticated tactics to delay regulation, undermine evidence-based policies and target young people through marketing and influence strategies.
During the meeting, Stowelink brought awareness to this advocacy series highlighting how these tactics operate and why transparency and vigilance are essential to protecting public health. The campaign which takes the form of posters and videos feature clear, youth-accessible messaging that breaks down industry strategies, including policy interference, misleading corporate social responsibility narratives and the targeting of vulnerable populations.

The recognition by the NCD Alliance of Kenya reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that health policies are shaped by evidence and community needs, not commercial interests. By aligning with the #UnmaskTheTactics campaign, Stowelink is reinforcing the importance of Article 5.3 of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, which calls on governments and stakeholders to safeguard public health policies from tobacco industry interference.
This activation also underscores the role of civil society and young advocates in tobacco control. Through digital storytelling, community education and policy engagement, Stowelink continues to equip young people with the knowledge and tools needed to challenge harmful industry practices and advocate for stronger tobacco regulation in Kenya.
As the campaign continues, Stowelink and Tobacco Industry Monitoring and Response team Kenya will sustain momentum through digital dissemination, partner engagement and advocacy aimed at strengthening tobacco control enforcement and protecting future generations from tobacco-related harm.
