STOWELINKS CEO, OGWENO STEPHEN was live on prime time in KUTV talking about cervical cancer awareness. In his submission he addressed a few issues on cervical cancer with his key messages being a focus on prevention, HPV vaccination and male involvement to boost cervical cancer screenings and hpv vaccinations.

Here is a summary of some of the issues that he addressed during the interview
Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer. According to WHO 2018, 33 per 100,000 women in Kenya have cervical cancer and 22 per 100,000 die from the disease. All women are at risk for cervical cancer and this disease occurs most often in women over the age of 30. The numbers continue to rise because of the following
- unprotected sex
- increased tobbaco smoking
- unhealthy diets
- increase in life expectancy
- low cervical cancer screening
- low health seeking behavior
- poverty
- capacity of HC systems
Finally, this is how often should one screen for Cervical Cancer?
Age group between 21-29 years should have Pap smear every 3 years and HPV testing from time to time but once you get to 30 years and up to 65 years you can either get a Pap smear and HPV test every five years, or they can get a Pap test every three years.
