From Lived Experience to Leadership: Stowelink’s Naila Chebet Featured by Women in Global Health

About Naila

As a passionate mental health advocate and public health professional, she uses her lived experience to educate communities, fight stigma and promote open conversations around mental well-being. Naila has been involved in several leadership and mental health fellowship programs and continues to drive Stowelink’s mission of empowering communities through advocacy, innovation and youth engagement.

The Story Behind the Feature

In her feature, Naila shared her powerful journey of transforming personal pain into purpose, a journey that continues to shape her unwavering commitment to mental health advocacy.

“My younger self could never have imagined that the pain I once experienced would one day fuel the passion I now have for mental health advocacy,” Naila shared.

She reflected on how the past month had been an emotional rollercoaster filled with moments of self-doubt and questioning her purpose but seeing her story recognized reminded her that this is just the beginning.

Embracing Vulnerability to Inspire Change

Talking about struggles, especially those related to mental health, isn’t always easy. Vulnerability can be uncomfortable and often comes with fear and uncertainty. Yet, Naila believes that embracing it is an essential part of healing and advocacy.

“Vulnerability creates connection. It allows us to build safe spaces and spark honest conversations around mental health,” she notes.

Her story is a testament to resilience, healing and the power of turning lived experiences into impact. Through her advocacy, Naila continues to inspire others to speak up, seek help and know that they are not alone.
